Melville "Donna's Block" Syrah 2022

The Sta. Rita Hills appellation of Santa Barba County is quite cool, and most producers plant Pinot Noir here. Chad Melville has a small corner of his estate vineyard that is pure beach sand that he feels is perfect for Syrah. Donna's block has become one of their best-known wines. He uses 100% whole-cluster fermentation and the result is a very spicy, herbal-tinged wine with taut black fruit and a good dose of smoke and olives. Think Cornas by way of the Caliornia coast!
