Billecart-Salmon Brut Reserve
This blend has been unchanged since 1945 - a proprietary house style of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, and Pinot Noir sourced from Cru vineyards within 20 miles of famed Epernay. Trademark fine bubbles; crisp, elegant, and perfect for toasting any occasion.
Champagne Billecart-Salmon was founded in 1818, with the marriage of Nicholas Francois Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon, and is run today by their descendent, Francois Rolland-Billecart. The firm owns 74 acres of its own vines, and buys in grapes from another 346 acres. Ninety percent of the fruit comes from within a 20-mile radius of Epernay, with some 35 crus contributing. Several cuvees are made. 100 Chardonnay sourced from Mesnil, Avize, Cramant and Chouilly. 50 of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and 5 of the wine was aged in oak.
No other winemaking region is as closely associated with celebration and romance. Brand-power here is also stronger than other regions, and consumers pay a premium for consistency and reliability. However a new wave of "grower" champagnes is introducing wines of distinction and character. Major varietals include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
