CoolVines Bottle Return

We are pleased to announce our partnership with Communal Brands to introduce the Bottle Return Program in our Jersey City and Hoboken locations. Our commitment to sustainability and reducing waste is reflected in this initiative, which encourages the reuse of glass wine bottles. Five new wines are eligible for return and reuse, and we invite you to participate! Once you have enjoyed your wine, simply bring the bottle to any of our locations and we will sanitize it and ensure it is used again. 

Implementing a bottle return program is a deliberate choice due to the significant impact of packaging on carbon emissions. In fact, packaging accounts for the largest share, contributing to nearly 45% of the carbon emissions associated with a bottle of wine. Among packaging types, glass bottles have the highest weight, further exacerbating their environmental footprint.

Alarming statistics from the EPA indicate that approximately 70% of all wine bottles end up in landfills without being recycled. This translates to an astounding 28 billion bottles annually, equivalent to filling the Empire State Building twice over every three weeks.

Merely relying on recycling alone cannot address this pressing issue effectively- it should be regarded as a last resort. Instead, we must embrace the principles of a Circular Economy, recognizing it as the path forward. This transition requires a profound shift in our collective behavior, moving away from a linear, single-use, disposable society towards one that is circular and sustainable.

By cultivating a mindset that acknowledges the true impacts of our actions, we have the power to bring about transformative change. We can do it together! Drinking good wine is just an added bonus.
