The Reveries Murder of Crows
Murder of Crows is something Jay West made to address the fact that Raven is far and away his most popular Reveries release and he got the idea to create a unique batch of Raven and recask it into 24 barrels using Extended Marrying neutral oak (bourbon barrels used enough times to no longer impart additional tannin), new American Oak and new French Oak. They'd go on to continue to mature for several months before bottling. The neutral oak maturation allows graceful extended mingling and complex additional marrying time, while the American oak adds a punch of tannin and the French adds a gorgeous, nuanced layer of spice. Once finished aging, some of the 24 barrels were offered online only through Jay's platform, some were offered as private selects to his earliest supporters, and one was given to Small Victories to break up and sell by the case which is the batch sold here.
The naming convention is unique as well: A crow is smaller than a raven, and a group of crows is called a murder. This project started as a unique batch of Raven which was then broken up into 24 barrels and thus, the Murder of Crows was born. Our Crow is number five. It contains Kentucky and Indiana bourbons aged 9-17 years old and is 126.7 proof (cask strength).
